Breastfeeding Support and Care

Can an IBCLC help me?

Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants are trained to handle a wide variety of breastfeeding issues. Our base of knowledge is wide and chances are good I have seen whatever problems you are dealing with several times before.

You may have seen someone at the hospital who said they were trained in lactation and are unsure about the differences between lactation providers.

IBCLCs are the only  health professionals trained specifically to handle advanced lactation related problems and have a certification that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.

IBCLCs are able to provide care to patients at higher acuity levels than those with other non-accredited certifications of breastfeeding education. For example, a registered nurse that has received some breastfeeding education other than the IBCLC certification (such as a Certified Lactation Counselor certification), can extend care and support to mothers experiencing normal pregnancy and childbirth scenarios.

IBCLCs are trained and equipped to handle more complex scenarios and can provide care to mothers at Acuity Levels 2 and 3, while other certifications are trained to address only Level 1 concerns. These additional scenarios, such as cesarean section deliveries and maternal breast conditions are not uncommon, yet require additional care and education beyond what is taught in other certification programs.

For whatever problems you are facing, I am here to help you find the solution.
